Genuine Faith - Palm Sunday

Apr 13, 2025    Fr Matthias Shehad
The contrast between the joyous welcome Jesus received on Hosanna Sunday and the eventual cries for his crucifixion by the same crowd prompts a discussion about genuine faith, examining the signs distinguishing true devotion from superficial enthusiasm.
The first sign of genuine faith is the willingness to embrace the cross, demonstrating self-denial, and the resolve to live a life aligned with God’s will despite trials and adversities. The narrative indicates that genuine faith persists beyond an initial enthusiastic response and requires endurance throughout life’s challenges. Additionally, genuine faith involves a desire for personal transformation rather than merely hosting Christ in one’s life, similar to the distinction between Zacchaeus and Simon the Pharisee. The sermon outlines the importance of making sacrifices to cut out sin, seeking deeper virtues rather than superficial appearances, and cultivating gratitude and trust in God, especially in times of waiting. Ultimately, the lesson is to seek a steadfast relationship with Christ, remaining faithful regardless of circumstances.
