He Emptied For Our Sake - Part 2: Our Self Emptying
Dec 15, 2025 • Fr Elijah Estafanous
In this second talk of the series “He Emptied Himself for Our Sake,” we move from what Christ did in His self-emptying love to how we respond. The call in Philippians 2:5-7 is not admiration, it is transformation: “Let this mind be in you…”
We unpack humility from a different angle. Not as fake modesty. Not as forcing yourself to “feel small.” But as a reality check: humility is accepting reality without resistance, seeing yourself clearly in the light of the majesty, holiness, and beauty of God. In that light, pride is exposed not as arrogance, but as resistance to reality and a desperate need to protect the ego.
This talk gets practical and personal: why we perform, why we defend ourselves, why we chase approval, why correction feels like an attack, and why forgiveness becomes impossible when humility is missing. We connect humility to the Gospel, to the fall of Adam and Eve, to the fig leaves we still wear today, and to the freedom of being God’s beloved son or daughter through baptism.
If you want a Christianity that actually changes your home, your relationships, your friendships, and your service, this is where the battle is: the first few seconds after your ego is provoked.
