God creates humanity with the intent of love, so how can we reject his love for us !
As Joshua beautifully puts, sin is thinking we can experience love OUTSIDE He who loved us first, it is thinking that we can experience mercy OUTSIDE he who is most merciful, it is thinking that we can exist OUTSIDE our relationship with God.
