Lessons from the Friends of the Paralyzed Man
Jun 15, 2025 • Fr Seraphim Saleeb
This sermon explores three spiritual messages derived from the Gospel story of the man lowered through a roof to be healed by Jesus. The first crucial lesson is that temptations reveal true friends, emphasizing that genuine companionship endures through times of sickness, failure, or poverty, unlike fair-weather friends who abandon people during difficulty, much like the friends of Job. The second message encourages people to never give up or surrender when facing obstacles, illustrating this by how the paralyzed man’s friends sought an alternative solution by accessing Jesus through the roof when the main entrance was blocked. Finally, the third key lesson is that faith requires releasing the ropes, symbolizing that true belief means surrendering one's fears and anxieties to God after praying, rather than holding onto doubts and worries "just in case" God does not act.
