”A Laborer Is Worthy of His Wages”

Jul 14, 2025    Fr Matthias Shehad
God appoints, equips, and supports those He calls, assuring them that their needs will be met and their work will bear fruit, regardless of their initial feelings of inadequacy or fear.
This sermon presents a profound reflection on the mission and service of the apostles as described in Luke chapter 10, focusing on how God equips and empowers those He calls to serve.
It begins by highlighting the sending of the 70 apostles who were commissioned to prepare the way for Jesus’ ministry to various regions.
God’s calling is divine and purposeful, not a result of human decision-making. Those called to serve are given spiritual gifts, authority, protection, fellowship, and power over darkness. The apostles were sent out two by two, symbolizing the importance of fellowship and mutual support in ministry. This companionship provides strength, encouragement, and a visible example of love and unity that attracts others to the faith.
Believers are called to serve in various capacities—whether publicly or quietly—and to do so with diligence, faith, and joy. It is a call to embrace God’s gifts, serve one another faithfully, and trust in God’s provision and protection throughout the journey.
