Evolution and Creation

The question of where we came from has occupied the thought of humans from time immemorial. In modern times, the scientific answer that has emerged is the process of evolution, by which more complex life forms develop from simpler life forms over very long periods of time. But how does evolution fit into the Christian worldview? Did God create species one by one? Or did He create a world that was itself capable of generating such species naturally? How does evolution impact on Christian doctrines like the Fall of humanity?
